Hitting Carson, watching you take BP on day one, I felt like you stayed on the baseball pretty well with good swing plane, good extension, and a good job staying in your legs and behind the baseball. There were few swings where your hands got away from your body and you got around the baseball. Make sur ou're consistently staying in your legs and behind the baseball to create more leverage and drive the ball with authority. During the game, I thought you showed a quick stroke and did a very good job staying inside the ball. Power Power is usually the last thing to develop for a young hitter. I don't know that you'll ever be considered a true power hitter, but I do think that as you continue to add strength, you'll be able to drive the baseball into the gaps with authority and do some damage offensively. Defense During the defensive evaluation on day one, I thought you showed really good hands, a plus arm with excellent accuracy, and very good actions. During the game, I would like to see you get a little wider in your ready position. I felt like your feet were a little narrow at times, which will keep you from getting good jumps. Your anticipation on every pitch was really good, and that's an important trait for an infielder. That's exactly what good infielders do. Running Your 60-yard dash time of 6.72 is outstanding. As athletic as you are, I know you can continue working to lower that time even more, which would make you a true plus runner. College coaches love middle infielders who can really run, and that's already one of your strengths. Evaluation Carson, you have a really good skill set. Your arm strength is solid, your 91 MPH exit velocity is very good, and your 6.72 60-yard dash time is excellent. While you may not have the biggest frame, you are athletic and play the game the right way. I want to encourage you to continue getting in the weight room and building strength, as I think that will help elevate every part of your game. Some college coaches may overlook players because of size, but baseball has proven time and time again that you don't have to be the biggest player on the field to be a successful one. Depending on a program's needs and the coach's philosophy, I could see you playing anywhere from D3 to a Mid-Major D1 program. The improvements you make over the next several months, especially in adding strength, will go a long way in determining that. Keep working hard and I wish you the best of luck. I'm pulling for you, kid!
